As a portrait photographer based in the scenic city of Casper, Wyoming, I’ve had the privilege of capturing many pivotal moments in people’s lives. However, some photo shoots stand out more than others due to their uniqueness and the vibrant personalities involved. One such memorable session was with a local high school senior from Kelly Walsh, CJ, who wanted her senior portraits to reflect her passion for sports and her love for her dog!

Breaking the Mold with Sports and Style

For this particular shoot, the senior expressed a desire for something different—photos that were edgy and incorporated her sports gear. She’s an athlete, passionate and dedicated, and she wanted her photos to echo this significant part of her life. To meet her vision, we planned a series of shots that would blend her athletic side with her personal style in a way that was both striking and deeply personal.

The Perfect Backdrops: 

We started at photography studio downtown casper. These photos were very earthy and calm. Then we headed to the park, Next, we moved to a local park, where the lighting was nothing short of magical. The gentle, golden sunlight of the late afternoon filtered through the trees, creating a soft, dreamy atmosphere. Here, we introduced her dog, an adorable and energetic companion that brought an added layer of warmth and joy to the session. Lastly we moved to a outdoor basketball court. The backdrop of the hoops and the concrete added a gritty, urban feel to the images. Dressed in her basketball jersey, with a ball in hand, she displayed a range of emotions and poses—from focused and fierce game-mode expressions to relaxed and joyful smiles. The contrast of her athletic gear against the rough textures of the court created a series of powerful portraits that celebrated her sports journey. 

A Fun and Fulfilling Experience

This high school senior portrait session was as fun as it was fulfilling. Working with a senior who was eager to step outside the traditional portrait framework made the experience incredibly rewarding. The blend of structured, athletic shots and spontaneous, joyful moments with her dog created a unqiue portrayal that celebrated her individuality and her transitions into new chapters of life.

As a photographer, being able to capture and contribute to such stories is what makes my work so meaningful.
