Capturing the Spirit of Youth: Krysten’s Edgy Senior Portrait Session

As a portrait photographer based in the scenic Casper, Wyoming, I’ve had the privilege of capturing many unique moments, but some sessions are very memorable, and this senior session I did with Krysten, was anything but ordinary.

Embracing the Elements at the Mountain Base

Our adventure began at the base of a casper mountain—one of my favorite spots to shoot to truly see the beauty of the mountain. It was a windy day, which might be a challenge for some, but for Krysten, it was a perfect start. Her long hair danced with the gusts, creating a series of dynamic and stunning portraits. The sunlight filtered through, casting a warm glow that highlighted her youthful energy perfectly.

Urban Vibes with a Vintage Twist

From the natural backdrop of the mountains, we shifted gears to the urban landscape of downtown Casper. Here, Krysten’s shoot took on a whole new vibe with the addition of her dad’s purple Plymouth Road Runner. This classic car not only added a splash of cool and color but also brought a personal touch that reflects Krysten’s edgy personality. The juxtaposition of her modern style against the vintage car on one of my favorite streets to photograph was simply magical.

Moody Studio Moments

Next, we took the shoot indoors to my studio. The setting was moody and hazy—just right for creating a series of introspective portraits that contrast sharply with the bright exteriors we’d captured earlier. The controlled lighting and shadows played across Krysten’s features, showcasing her versatility and the depth of her expressions.

Riverside Whimsy at Morad Park

Our penultimate location was Morad Park, a serene spot by the river. Krysten changed into a charming green two-piece set that mirrored the freshness of the setting. The sun was once again in perfect harmony with our shoot, casting spectacular light that made the river and greenery around us pop. The atmosphere was playful and light-hearted, capturing the essence of Krysten’s spirited personality.

A Secret Finale

The final chapter of our photo adventure took us to a secret location known only to a few. An old abandoned pool served as the backdrop, adding an element of mystery and a hint of nostalgia to our session. This spot, hidden away from the usual paths, was the perfect end to our day—edgy, unique, and full of stories, much like Krysten herself.

Throughout the shoot, Krysten’s mom and dad were integral parts of the experience. Her mom’s presence added a comforting touch, and all the behind the scenes photos you see in this blog, while her dad’s involvement with the Plymouth added a layer of familial connection that made the portraits all the more special!

This senior photo shoot with Krysten wasn’t just about capturing her as she is now—it was about celebrating her journey, her individuality, and her step into the future. As a photographer, being part of such personal and joyful moments is what makes my work so rewarding. Each location, each click of the shutter, brought out a different facet of Krysten’s personality, and I’m grateful to have been the one to capture it.
